RZone

RZone logoThe “RZone” is an operating procedure that has been adopted by the Township of Perth East, to have a code of conduct that applies to all Township facilities, programs, parks and trails. The RZone procedure enforces a set of expectations around violence, vandalism and inappropriate behaviour for participants and members of the public.

The ‘R’ in the logo stands for Respect and Responsibility.

  • Respect for yourself
  • Respect for others
  • Responsibility for your actions

The original RZone was created by the Town of Oakville, in order to create a code of conduct that was easily understood and recognizable by users of recreational facilities in the Town. With the success of this policy, many municipalities in Canada adopted their own Rzone policies, with permission from the Town of Oakville.

Council of the Township of Perth East formally adopted our own RZone Policy on September 5, 2019.

If you feel you have witnessed an act of violence, vandalism and/or inappropriate behaviour at one of our facilities that has violated the RZone, you may report it in the following ways:

  • Fill out a paper form, and bring or mail in a sealed envelope to the Perth East Recreation Complex (40 Temperance Street, Milverton ON, N0K 1M0)
  • Report online using our secure form

If you have any questions regarding reporting an incident, please contact Perth East Recreation and Community Services at (519) 595-8375.

Inappropriate behaviour or actions for the purpose of this procedure includes, but is not limited to, the following behaviours:

  • Aggressive or intimidating approaches to another individual (verbal assault)
  • Threats
  • Attempts to goad or incite anger in others
  • Throwing of articles in a deliberate or aggressive manner
  • Physical striking of another individual
  • Theft of property
  • Possession of weapons
  • Illegal consumption of alcohol or drugs
  • Contravention of Municipal by-laws, policies, or procedures
  • Vandalism: the deliberate destruction, damage or defacing of property owned or leased through the Municipality
  • Harassment: “engaging in a course of vexatious comment or conduct that is known or ought reasonably to be known to be unwelcome” as defined by the Ontario Human Rights Code and covered by the Township’s Workplace Harassment and Violence Policies

Please review the Township’s RZone Enforcement Guidelines for more detailed information on consequences and enforcement.

It is understood that these guidelines do not include all types of behaviour, that each incident will be reviewed based on information available. Consequences may be more severe or escalated depending on the circumstances of the inappropriate conduct.

Perth County Open Air Fire Ban Lifted

PERTH COUNTY (August 25, 2025) – Effective at noon today, thanks to the recent rainfall, the open air fire ban will be lifted in the County of Perth, including the City of Stratford. Burn permits can now be issued and must abide by the respective municipality’s open air burn by-law.
With the monitoring of rainfall and vegetation conditions, Fire Chiefs are confident that residents can now safely burn. Please continue to practice safe burning by doing the following:

  •  Call your local fire department to obtain an open air burn permit.
  •  Closely supervise all outdoor fires. Make sure the fire is out before leaving the area.
  • Ensure that your open fire is the correct distance from all structures and other combustible materials.
  •  Never burn plastics, household garbage, construction debris, treated lumber or other laminate wood, tires, ashphalt products, pesticides, paint or aerosol containers, etc. These contain toxins that are harmful to people, animals and the environment when burned.
  • Avoid burning on windy days and be aware of wind direction when deciding to burn.
  • Never use gasoline or other flammable combustible liquids.

Have a source of water or equipment to move dirt/sand to extinguish the fire if necessary.
With weather conditions changing frequently during the summer months, we advise that the burn ban may be put back in place at anytime, if dry conditions return.
Farmers are still encouraged to be very careful with combining, as field fires can quickly overtake equipment, neighbouring crops and can spread quickly into adjacent woodlands. Having a fire extinguisher on board large equipment is highly recommended.
If you discover an uncontrolled/unattended open air fire, it is very important that you report fires immediately to 9-1-1. Do not delay reporting while attempting to control or extinguish the fire.
The Fire Chiefs in these municipalities wish to thank residents and visitors alike for their patience and co-operation during the fire ban.
If you have any questions regarding this order, please contact your local Fire Department.
