Automated Collection

Garbage and recycling collection in Perth East is an automated curbside collection done biweekly by our provider, Bluewater Recycling Association (BRA). BRA manages the Township’s curbside collection schedule; each ward of Perth East has a different day for collection.

The automated collection system uses a specialized vehicle to collect the curbside waste (black bins) and recycling (blue bins) which are collected at the same time with the same vehicle in a two-compartment truck.

We recommend that you set out both bins by 7am to ensure collection. Should you need to change the number or size of your bins or have any other inquiries regarding automated waste and recycling collection, please reach out to Bluewater Recycling Association.

Recycling

As of January 2026, there have been some changes to both residential and commercial recycling.

Residential Recycling:
An expanded residential recycling list has been introduced as of January 2026 which will allow for more materials to be recycled, helping keep even more waste out of the landfills!
Residential Acceptable List

Commercial Recycling:
New regulation under the Resource Recovery and Circular Economy Act means Producer Responsibility Organizations (PROs) are only responsible for managing residential recycling. Resulting in recycling from businesses, institutions, and other non-residential properties (also knows as Industrial, Commercial, and Institutional (ICI) properties) must now be collected separately. In order to meet these new requirements BRA has introduced dedicated collection routes and separate trucks for ICI properties. The properties effected will have gotten new RED lids installed on the recycling wheelie bins.
*Note: your waste collection day remains unchanged

Garbage & Recycling (Waste Management) services are contracted to the Bluewater Recycling Association, through the use of “wheelie bins”.

If you have moved to a new home, the previous owners should have left the wheelie bins at your new home. If you are in a new home or do not have wheelie bins at your new property, please contact Bluewater Recycling Association to order new bins online or phone them at 1-800-265-9799. If you move, you must leave your wheelie bins at your previous address, as they are bar coded to the property.

Garbage bins range in price, depending on your needs. The cost of the bins are paid for on your property tax bill, and are charged annually. Recycling bins are no charge. If you move and need a larger or smaller bin, please contact Bluewater Recycling. To see the size and cost of bins, come to our municipal office or view them here

You can also sign up for Bluewater Recycling’s Collection Reminder App to be reminded of when your collection days are!

Perth County Open Air Fire Ban Lifted

PERTH COUNTY (August 25, 2025) – Effective at noon today, thanks to the recent rainfall, the open air fire ban will be lifted in the County of Perth, including the City of Stratford. Burn permits can now be issued and must abide by the respective municipality’s open air burn by-law.
With the monitoring of rainfall and vegetation conditions, Fire Chiefs are confident that residents can now safely burn. Please continue to practice safe burning by doing the following:

  •  Call your local fire department to obtain an open air burn permit.
  •  Closely supervise all outdoor fires. Make sure the fire is out before leaving the area.
  • Ensure that your open fire is the correct distance from all structures and other combustible materials.
  •  Never burn plastics, household garbage, construction debris, treated lumber or other laminate wood, tires, ashphalt products, pesticides, paint or aerosol containers, etc. These contain toxins that are harmful to people, animals and the environment when burned.
  • Avoid burning on windy days and be aware of wind direction when deciding to burn.
  • Never use gasoline or other flammable combustible liquids.

Have a source of water or equipment to move dirt/sand to extinguish the fire if necessary.
With weather conditions changing frequently during the summer months, we advise that the burn ban may be put back in place at anytime, if dry conditions return.
Farmers are still encouraged to be very careful with combining, as field fires can quickly overtake equipment, neighbouring crops and can spread quickly into adjacent woodlands. Having a fire extinguisher on board large equipment is highly recommended.
If you discover an uncontrolled/unattended open air fire, it is very important that you report fires immediately to 9-1-1. Do not delay reporting while attempting to control or extinguish the fire.
The Fire Chiefs in these municipalities wish to thank residents and visitors alike for their patience and co-operation during the fire ban.
If you have any questions regarding this order, please contact your local Fire Department.
