Canine Control
The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford Perth is contracted to provide the following services for the Township of Perth East:
- Animal By-Law Services
- Animal Control Services
- Stray dogs/dogs at large
- Injured dogs
- After Hours Emergency Service – Injured
- Domestic and Wildlife
- Animal Sheltering Services
- Dog licensing
- Dog bite reports
- Dead domestic animal reports
- Dead wildlife reports
The Stratford Perth Humane Society also accepts stray cats if brought to the shelter. We kindly ask that you call ahead and arrange for a time to bring them in. If you should find a lost dog, or if your dog has gone missing, please call the Stratford-Perth Humane Society at (519) 273-6600
As of January 1, 2020, concerns for animal cruelty, abandonment and neglect are investigated by the Provincial Animal Welfare Services team, operating under the Ministry of the Solicitor General for the Province of Ontario. The new reporting hotline is 1-833-9ANIMAL (1-833-926-4625). This number is for the entire Province. Should you have a concern for animal welfare, please call this hotline to submit a complaint.

Dogs found to be running at large may be impounded by Canine Control. It is the responsibility of the dog’s owner to properly register the dog with the Township via the purchase of a dog tag.
Perth East residents are limited to two (2) dogs per property. Should you wish to own or operate a kennel housing more than two dogs, please visit the Kennels tab for more information.
Dog Tags
Every dog in the Township of Perth East must be licensed annually. Dog tags identify your pet and get your pet home safely if they are lost. If your dog is picked up by the Stratford-Perth Humane Society and it does not have a dog tag, you may incur additional fees and charges.

Kennels
Kennels within the Township of Perth East are regulated as per By-law 44-2016. There are three different types of kennels that the Township regulates:
- Breeding Kennel: where purebred dogs are kept for breeding, housing, or selling.
- Boarding Kennel: any building , structure, run or facility, or part thereof, used for the boarding (for hire), grooming, showing, training or temporarily housing of more than (1) dog.
- Hunting/Sporting/Sled Dog Kennel: any building, structure, dog run or other facility where dogs are kept solely for the purpose of routinely entering into dog sled or other sporting event; or hunting dogs are kept for the hunting purpose.
Kennels are only permitted within Agricultural zones. All kennels within the Township of Perth East must obtain a yearly Kennel License and are inspected by the By-law enforcement officer on a yearly basis.
