Township of Perth East Declares a Significant Weather Event
PERTH EAST, ON – At 3:30pm local time, The Township of Perth East officially declared a Significant Weather Event as per Ontario Regulation 239/02. This declaration applies to all Township of Perth East roads and does not apply to other Township’s Roads, County/Regional Roads or Provincial highways. Although, at the time of this declaration, Perth County and member municipalities within Perth County have also declared a Significant Weather Event.
According to the Provincial regulation, the definition of a Significant Weather Event indicates there is “an approaching or occurring weather hazard with the potential to pose significant danger to users of the highways within a municipality.”
“We have seen substantially deteriorating conditions across our road network due to increased snowfall and high winds. Visibility is extremely poor and we want to ensure our Plow Operators are able to continue their work safely, and this declaration helps us keep everyone safe.” said Jake Collings, Manager of Public Works. “Declaring a Significant Weather Event allows the Township to continue road maintenance operations in a safe and responsible manner during severe and hazardous weather. Township plows will continue to operate until it is no longer safe to do so.”
Notice of this declaration will be circulated by the Township of Perth East and communicated to the public via the Township’s website and social media. When the declaration is rescinded, updates and notifications will be issued via the same channels.
