Most households contain materials that can be hazardous and must be disposed of carefully. Improper disposal can be dangerous to people and the environment. Our landfills, storm drains and sewage treatment plants are not designed to treat chemical wastes. Without special treatment, the chemicals may pose a threat to our own health and environment.

The Township of Perth East has an agreement in place with the City of Stratford for Household Hazardous Waste Disposal services. The City of Stratford collection site will be at the Stratford Landfill Site (777 Romeo Street South) from 9am to 4pm on Saturday September 7, 2024 AND Saturday October 26, 2024. Aerosol cans, Aluminum cleaners, Ammonia based cleaners, Drain cleaners, Furniture polish, Oven cleaners, Insect sprays, Disinfectants, Nail polish, Toilet bowl cleaner, Tub & tile cleaners, Mercury thermometers, Automatic transmission fluid, Battery acid, Brake fluid, Diesel fuel, Motor oil, Fuel oil, Antifreeze, Gasoline, Gas/Oil mixtures, Paint, Paint stripper, Turpentine, Varnish, Wood preservative, Rust remover, etc. Retailers of these products may have a stewardship program available for the safe disposal of hazardous items which they sell at their locations. It is advised that retailers be contacted to ensure that such a program is offered at their location before travelling. |
