Backyard Chickens
On May 21, 2025, The Township of Perth East Council approved a two (2) year pilot program to license the keeping of backyard chickens, with a limit of no more than 20 licenses being issued.
In accordance with the by-law the program will run from July 1, 2025 to June 30 2027.
Licenses for the keeping of backyard chickens will be issued in accordance with the following by-law, for the duration of the pilot program:

Please note that this is a pilot program and is subject to changes or elimination after the two years. If Council decides to terminate the program beyond the two year pilot, licensee’s will be required to remove the chickens from the property.
There is a one time fee of $75.00 to be paid at time of submitting the complete application. Licenses will be issued on a first come for serve basis, up to a maximum of 20 licenses. Once the limit of 20 licenses has been met applicants will be waitlisted in sequence.
