The Split Rail Country Store is a customer service driven business that is owned and operated by Amberly Knott and her family. They will be celebrating their 15th anniversary this year in May!
They pride themselves in local everything! Local fresh and high quality feed for horses, wild birds, backyard poultry, and other livestock, as well as locally manufactured pet food. They even have local human food! Local honey, maple syrup, coffee, eggs, cheese and meats. Not only do they offer food, but they also offer a variety of different essentials, including a great selection of cowboy boots, muck boots, grass seed, bird feeders and more! Making this store a one stop shop for country living!
The Split Rail also offers chick days; every other Tuesday through the Spring, Summer and Fall, offering a wide variety of layers, ducks and turkeys.

Ruff Ranch Kennel

Ruff Ranch Kennel is a family owned breeding kennel, breeding CKC Registered Labrador Retrievers, with 5 dames and 1 sire. The Wilson Family and their superstar employee Damien Brownlee, and a newly part time hire Sydney Mcleod, truly love raising puppies and find their business very rewarding.
Ruff Ranch actually started off as a boarding kennel, till 2016 when one of the Wilson's own dogs ended up having a litter of puppies. When the family went through the breeding process, they soon realized they would truly enjoy that aspect of a kennel much more than boarding. So, in 2016 they transitioned from a boarding to a breeding kennel.
Manager Blair took the time to explain the process to becoming a "legit" breeding kennel; noting that they have to be a member of the Canadian Kennel Club, get approval from us here at the Township, and also have the proper insurance in place. Though, there were a few hoops to jump through, the Wilson's sure flourish that raising their pups.
About 60% of puppies go to loving families, and the other 40% become more than a companion! For example, some of the pups from Ruff Ranch have gone on to be service/ therapy dogs, hunting dogs, and even law enforcement dogs! Blair also made note that one of the dames (Winter) is actually his therapy dog, helping him cope with anxiety.
To make sure the pups are going to the right owner and are a good fit, the Wilson's encourage lots of visits from the future owners on their 15 acre property. They have a large fenced in shaded area for the puppies and potential owners to play in, 2kms of trails through their bush, and even a pond for a place to go, to really get to know the pup and make sure it feels like a good fit for the potential future owners.
Another really interesting thing that Ruff Ranch does with their puppies before the pups leave to their new loving owners is, they take them to Spruce Lodge to visit with residents, bringing so many smiles to their faces. Another community group that Ruff Ranch welcomes is Community Living, Stratford; the residents really enjoy the puppy love and snuggles!
