Vacant Unit Rebate

Commercial and Industrial properties may be eligible for a property tax rebate. The deadline is February 28 of the year following the taxation year for which the application relates. The rate of the rebate is 30% for commercial properties and 35% for industrial properties. The building inspector may be required to inspect the vacant unit. This application is not valid for seasonal businesses.

Charity Rebate

Registered charities may be eligible for a property tax reduction and the form must be completed before the end of February, for the previous taxation year. Certain charities are eligible for the rebate program and the eligibility requirements have been established by The Corporation of the County or Perth under By-law 2672. Registered charities must apply annually and return the application to the Township office.

Farmland Property Tax

In order to be eligible for the Farm Property Class tax rate of 25% of the Residential rate all of the following criteria must be satisfied:

  • The property must be assessed as farmland by Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC).
  • The property must be used as part of a farming operation generating Gross Farm Income of at least $7,000 as reported to Canada Revenue Agency for income tax property. If less than $7,000 you may still qualify you will need to satisfy an income exemption
  • More than 50% of the property is owned by a Canadian citizen.
  • A valid Farm Business Registration number from AGRICORP.

Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program

If you have forestland on your property you may qualify for the Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program which reduces your taxes to 25% of the Residential rate. Landowners need to apply and qualify to be eligible for this program.
